Zero waste pioneers
How a small shop in Devon is changing attitudes to food and packaging waste.
Professional footballer Richard Eckersley and his wife Nicola wanted to find the best place in the UK to open a zero-waste vegan shop, so they popped the question to Google.
Top of the list was Totnes, Devon. The couple moved there with baby daughter Willow after a family holiday to check the locals were up for some cleaner, ethical shopping. Which of course they were.
“We had just returned to Manchester after living overseas in Toronto and New York, where Richard played football for the previous four years,” says former English teacher Nicola.
